Our history

Parkview Community Playgroup was established in the mid-80s, when a small group of mums set up the sort of pre-school that they wished to send their own children to. It was there, then based in one of their homes, that the underlying Parkview values, of play-led and child-centred learning in a caring and nurturing environment, first took root.

Sandra Everatt joined this dedicated team in 1990, and became the Supervisor in 1996, with Co-Supervisor Kate Booth coming on board in 2007. Kate then became Supervisor in 2023 with Sandra stepping down but still working as a Key Person. Hayley Steele then became Deputy Supervisor in 2023 supporting Kate. The playgroup had become so popular that it had expanded into Hiltingbury Pavilion. Then, with its reputation for excellent pre-school care and a high demand for places, it was only natural for Parkview Community Playgroup to be the first choice of 'resident' pre-school at The Hilt Community Centre when it was built. In 2009, Parkview opened its doors to the light, spacious and airy Hocombe Hall at the Hilt where they are based today; where children continue to benefit from being sited just beside the playground and over the road from Hiltingbury Infant School (although our children go on to various primary schools in the surrounding area).

It takes a village...

Parkview Community Playgroup is a highly respected and much-loved community-led pre-school, with registered charitable status (1153914). Unlike many nurseries and pre-schools, Parkview is managed by a parent-led committee in conjunction with Kate Booth (Supervisor) and her team of high experienced Key People who work directly with the children.

Many parents and carers over the years have selected Parkview for its nurturing environment.

Others enjoy the parental involvement and contributions that can be made. Almost all parents welcome the flexible, collaborative and gentle settling-in periods for children, which are always approached according to the individual child's needs and parents' wishes.
